A Total Approach
DIRFloortime® Program

What is DIRFloortime®?

DIRFloortime® is a relationship-based, developmental approach that helps children grow by meeting them where they are and celebrating who they are. It honors each child’s unique sensory, emotional, and learning profile while nurturing warm, joyful interactions that build communication, regulation, and thinking. At its heart, DIRFloortime® believes that connection fuels development; and when children feel understood, supported, and safe, they thrive.

Our DIRFloortime® Program at A Total Approach

Our DIR program is designed to wrap families and children in support, learning, and partnership. We believe the most meaningful progress happens when relationships come first and families are truly seen, heard, and included at every step.

This program supports families who are looking for guidance in their parenting journey, whether addressing specific developmental challenges or seeking a deeper, more connected approach to supporting their child.

Participation in the program involves a minimum commitment of four months, allowing time to build relationships, deepen understanding, and support meaningful developmental progress.

Our program is built on five core values:

  • Relationship First
Every interaction is grounded in trust, safety, and authentic connection. We build relationships that help children feel secure enough to explore, communicate, and grow.
  • Families as Partners
Parents and caregivers are essential members of the therapeutic team. We collaborate, learn together, and celebrate every step of progress side-by-side.
  • Neurodiversity-Affirming and Trauma-Informed
We honor each child’s individuality and support them in ways that respect their nervous system, past experiences, and unique way of being in the world.
  • Developmentally Sequenced, Sensory-Based Therapy
Our teamwork approach follows each child’s natural developmental path, integrating sensory processing, emotional regulation, motor planning, play, and communication into every session.
  • Continuous Learning for Parents & Staff
Growth is a shared journey. Our therapists receive ongoing training, and families gain practical tools and support that extend beyond the therapy room.

With these guiding values, our DIRFloortime® program provides a nurturing, empowering, and highly individualized path for children and their families — one grounded in compassion, attunement, and the power of human connection.

Two Ways to Participate in the A Total Approach DIRFloortime® Program

We recognize that families’ circumstances, locations, and needs differ. For this reason, the A Total Approach DIRFloortime® Program is offered in two participation options, both grounded in the same core values, clinical standards, and relationship-based philosophy.

Option 1: Comprehensive In-Person DIRFloortime® Program

This option is ideal for families who can attend sessions in person and want the full, immersive DIRFloortime® experience.

Families participating in this option receive all components of the program, including:

  • Holistic developmental assessment
  • Weekly direct, on-the-floor parent coaching
  • Ongoing therapist observation and support
  • Family consultations every two months
  • Access to the Maude Le Roux Academy
  • Monthly virtual parent support group

This model allows for real-time coaching, shared regulation, and live relational experiences that support deep learning, connection, and developmental growth.

Option 2: Distance-Based DIRFloortime® Review & Coaching Program

This option is designed for families who are unable to attend in-person sessions due to distance or logistical constraints, but who still wish to engage in meaningful DIRFloortime® support.

In this model:

  • Profile summary based on recorded video clips and completion of questionnaires during the first month of the program, includes a personalized roadmap
  • Families record and submit short video clips of parent–child interactions from their home environment once per month
  • Our DIRFloortime® team carefully reviews these recordings through a developmental and relational lens
  • Families receive a professionally reviewed and edited video response based on submitted home recordings, highlighting strengths, developmental themes, and suggested next steps.
  • Family consultations once every month
  • Access to the Maude Le Roux Academy
  • Monthly virtual parent support group

This option maintains the heart of DIRFloortime®—relationship, attunement, and developmental understanding—while offering flexibility and accessibility for families at a distance.

Trained DIRFloortime® Professionals at ATA

Our team includes well trained, deeply attuned DIRFloortime® practitioners who bring expertise in sensory processing, emotional development, and relationship-based work. Families can trust that every therapist is committed to compassionate, evidence-informed, neurodiversity-affirming care.

Recording: Orientation to DIRFloortime®

Upon entering the DIRFloortime® program at ATA, families receive a link to a recorded orientation designed to introduce the DIR approach—its foundations, guiding principles, and how it is applied in practice. This orientation helps caregivers feel informed, grounded, and prepared to engage as active partners in the therapeutic process.

Holistic Developmental Assessment

We begin with a comprehensive developmental profile that integrates sensory processing, emotional regulation, motor planning, communication, and relational capacities. This assessment provides a rich picture of your child’s strengths and needs across the DIR framework.

A Family Needs & Strengths Inventory

This collaborative tool helps us understand your family’s routines, stressors, supports, and values—ensuring that therapeutic recommendations fit naturally into your daily life and build on what is already working well.

A Parent Capacity & Confidence Scale

We use this gentle reflective measure to support caregiver growth, track increasing confidence, and identify areas where added coaching or education may be helpful. It is empowering, not evaluative.

Direct On-the-Floor Weekly Coaching

Parents participate in real-time coaching during sessions, learning how to deepen connection, support regulation, and build developmental capacities through play and everyday interactions. Parents are empowered to be parents, while equipping their child.

Monthly Video Feedback Coaching

Families who cannot attend weekly coaching receive monthly recorded feedback using recorded parent–child clips from home. Together, we celebrate strengths, reflect on interactions, and set simple, meaningful next steps.

Family Consultations

Families meet with the therapy team to review progress, refine goals, and discuss how therapy is translating into home, school, and community life.

Integration of Trauma-Informed DIR Principles

Our approach honors nervous system safety, relationship repair, and emotional pacing. We recognize how past experiences shape development and tailor our work to be gentle, respectful, and attuned to each child’s emotional world.

Access to the Maude Le Roux Academy

Parents receive access to the Maude Le Roux Academy at a discounted rate of 50% for the duration of their commitment to the DIRFloortime® program. This platform provides curated on-demand learning resources aligned with DIRFloortime principles, allowing families to access information relevant to their child’s unique developmental profile.

Virtual Parent Support Group

This warm, facilitated online group meets once monthly for a 2-hour session, offering families a supportive space to connect from the comfort of their own homes. Caregivers are invited to share experiences, exchange ideas, and receive emotional support from others who truly understand the journey, while also being supported by two seasoned therapists.

Embedded Therapist Training and Supervision

ATA therapists receive continuous supervision and advanced training to ensure high-quality, consistent DIR practice. This culture of learning supports clinical excellence and strengthens every family’s therapeutic experience.
