Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is becoming the gold standard for assisting in the diagnosis of children and adults on the autism spectrum. Many large institutions and research facilities include this tool as part of their diagnostic work-up on a regular basis, considering it to be a reliable measure also in terms of research. Unfortunately, families frequently face long waiting lists at hospitals or with other trained personnel for extended periods of time, which impacts the early detection of symptoms. Now this evaluation is available at ATA, making it simpler for families to know sooner the possibilities of what they are facing.

We would like to stress that the ADOS is not a diagnostic evaluation, rather a screening tool. As occupational therapists we do not diagnose. We are trained in completing the ADOS, which would indicate whether you or your child is found to be on the continuum. This information would then be taken to your developmental pediatrician/ physician.
